Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bridoon Single Jointed Locked 12mm 13 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bridoon Single Jointed Locked 12mm 13 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The mouthpiece has a size of 13 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12mm at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are constantly being developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly controlled for quality.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece is similar to a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available as single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a bar and the bridoon is jointed.
