Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon Single Jointed Blocking 12mm 10.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon Single Jointed Blocking 12mm 10.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller side pieces as a bradoon for weymouths. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when rein pressure is applied. The mouthpiece has a size of 10.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for ponies.
Bit thickness
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to create surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece resembles a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Side piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the weymouth, as the weymouth is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.
