The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to present the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bradoon Single-Jointed Locked 12mm 10 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bradoon Single-Jointed Locked 12mm 10 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller sidepieces as a bradoon for weymouths. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when rein pressure is applied. The mouthpiece has a width of 10 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually suitable for ponies.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back into a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Sidepiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth. It is available with single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the weymouth, as the weymouth is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.
