The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bridoon Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller side pieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, meaning a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The bit has a size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for very large warmbloods.

Bit thickness

The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. So it is a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a plate as the center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It acts mainly on the tongue with a sharp action due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean on the hand.

Bridoon

The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a solid bar and the bridoon is jointed.
