Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the greatest care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bridoon Double Jointed with Copper Rings 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bridoon Double Jointed with Copper Rings 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller side pieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually suitable for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at the thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
A double jointed mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Side piece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available as single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb and the bridoon is jointed.
