The Trust Equestrian Team is continuously working on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of bits. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle locked 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle locked 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Loose Ring cheeks. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when rein pressure is applied. The mouthpiece has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is normally ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the area of the horse's commissure. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more in the range of 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece, but it cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheek Piece
Loose Ring
The loose ring snaffle is a very commonly used bit. The rings of the Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle locked 16mm 14.5 cannot move independently, so the rider's aids are transmitted directly and the bit lies stably in the horse's mouth. In addition, this cheek piece does not pinch the horse's corners of the mouth, so rubber bit guards are not necessary.
