The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Olive Head Snaffle 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Sweet Iron Olive Head Snaffle 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with olive head rings as cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissure. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Single-jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very common.
Cheekpiece
Olive Head
The olive head bit is a standard bit. The rings of the Trust Sweet Iron Olive Head Snaffle 16mm 12.5 cannot move independently of each other, so the rider's aid is directly conveyed and the bit lies stably in the horse's mouth. In addition, this cheekpiece does not pinch the corners of the horse's mouth, so rubber bit guards are not necessary.
