The Trust Sweet Iron Liverpool 3-Slot Medium Bar Bit is made of Sweet Iron and features driving bit shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point, making it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. As a result, horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Shank
Driving Bits
Driving bits like the Trust Sweet Iron Liverpool 3-Slot Medium Bar Bit are specially suited for the needs of carriage horses. There are several types of driving bits.
Liverpool Bit The Liverpool bit is a classic driving bit and offers several options for rein attachment. The Liverpool bit is usually available with short or long shanks. It is also possible to tilt the angle of the tongue arch forward. This forward inclination relieves pressure on the bars and acts more on the tongue.
Post Bit The Post bit is also a classic driving bit and commonly used for agricultural harnessing. It offers two options for rein attachment. Attaching in the lower ring creates leverage. When attached in the upper ring, this leverage is absent, and the bit becomes a ring bit.
