The Trust Sweet Iron Liverpool Bit, 3-Slots, Double Jointed is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Driving Weymouth cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a moderately strong mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. These bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This rust tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used for horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Cheek piece
Driving Weymouth
Driving Weymouth bits, such as the Trust Sweet Iron Liverpool Bit, 3-Slots, Double Jointed, are particularly suitable for the needs of carriage horses. There are several types of driving Weymouth bits.
Liverpool Weymouth The Liverpool Weymouth is a classic driving bit and offers several options for rein attachment. The Liverpool Weymouth is usually available with short or long shanks. It is also possible to tilt the angle of the tongue port forward. This forward tilt relieves pressure on the bars and acts more on the tongue.
Post Weymouth The Post Weymouth is also a classic driving Weymouth and is commonly used for rural harnesses. It offers two options for rein attachment. If the rein is attached to the lower ring, a leverage effect is achieved. If the rein is attached to the upper ring, this leverage effect is absent, and the bit becomes a snaffle bit.
