Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Waterford Multi-Jointed Mouthpiece 16mm 11.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Waterford Multi-Jointed Mouthpiece 16mm 11.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Kimblewick cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed. The bit has a size of 11.5 centimetres. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the horse's commissure. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draught horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information

Mouthpiece
Multi-jointed/Waterford
A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is gentle and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.
Cheekpiece
Kimblewick
The Kimblewick combines a leverage effect on the lower jaw, pressure distribution on the poll, and a change in the bit's position in the horse's mouth. The Kimblewick allows for three different attachment options, enabling a well-dosed use of the bit. The solid cheekpieces are slightly heavier, which ensures a quieter position in the horse's mouth.
