The Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook High Port Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Kimblehook cheeks. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a width of 12.5 centimeters. A mouthpiece size of 12.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheeks
Kimblehook
The Kimblehook combines a lever action on the lower jaw branches, pressure on the poll and a change in the position of the bit in the horse's mouth. The Kimblehook allows for three different strapping options, enabling a well-dosed use of the bit. The stable cheekpieces ensure a calm position in the mouth.
