The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Dr. Bristol Copper Plate bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Dr. Bristol Copper Plate bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Kimblehook shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which is a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Dr. Bristol
The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and has a flat edge. It primarily acts on the tongue with a sharp effect due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that go against the hand.
Shank
Kimblehook
The Kimblehook combines leverage on the lower jaw, pressure on the poll, and a change in the bit's position in the horse's mouth. The Kimblehook allows for three different attachment options, which enable a well-dosed use of the bit. The stable shanks ensure a calm position in the mouth.
