The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Kimblewick Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features Kimblewick cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which means a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for very large warmbloods.

Bit thickness

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Dr. Bristol

The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It primarily acts on the tongue with a sharp effect due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean on the hand.

Cheekpiece

Kimblewick

The Kimblewick combines leverage on the lower jaw, pressure on the poll, and a change in the bit's position in the horse's mouth. The Kimblewick allows for three different attachment options, enabling a well-dosed use of the bit. The stable cheekpieces ensure a calm position in the mouth.
