The Trust Equestrian bit range provides gentle yet effective aids for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Double Broken Bit with Copper Rings 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The bit Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Double Broken Bit with Copper Rings 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Kimblehook cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double broken. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissure. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double Broken
Double broken mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. The bit should not be used on narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. The double broken bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single broken bits.
Cheek Piece
Kimblehook Bit
The Kimblehook bit combines leverage on the lower jaw branches, pressure on the poll and a change in the position of the bit in the horse's mouth. The bit allows for three different attachment options, which enable a well-dosed use of the bit. The solid cheek pieces are a little heavier, which ensures a quieter position in the horse's mouth.
