The Trust Sweet Iron Kimblehook Double Jointed Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Kimblewick cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a width of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double Jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. The bit should not be used on narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek piece
Kimblewick
The Kimblewick combines a leverage effect on the lower jaw branches, pressure on the poll and a change in the position of the bit in the horse's mouth. The Kimblewick allows for three different attachment options, which enable a well-dosed use of the bit. The solid cheek pieces are somewhat heavier, which ensures a quieter position in the horse's mouth.
