The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. We would like to introduce the Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek single jointed 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek single jointed 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed. The bit has a size of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
single-jointed
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek single jointed 16mm 11.5 has a joint in the middle, which applies less pressure to the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed one.
Cheek piece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek single jointed 16mm 11.5 is a Baucher bit, also known as a B-bit, Fillis, or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their head very high to lower it and become lighter in the poll. The B-bit strongly resembles a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, as with the Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled in the upper, small ring. However, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts hardly any pressure on the poll.
