Product description
Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Single Jointed 12mm 10.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is generally suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to present the Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Single Jointed 12mm 10.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Single Jointed 12mm 10.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 10.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for ponies.
Cheekpiece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Single Jointed 12mm 10.5 is a Baucher bit, also called a B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and encourages horses that carry their head very high to lower it and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle strongly resembles a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, like a Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled into the upper, small ring. However, unlike a Pelham, the rein does not exert leverage on the bit and therefore exerts little pressure on the poll.
Mouthpiece
Single jointed
The single jointed mouthpiece has a hinge in the middle, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double jointed mouthpiece. A single jointed mouthpiece primarily applies pressure to the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
