The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Bit, Double-Jointed with High Port, 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Bit, Double-Jointed with High Port, 16mm 14.5 is a Baucher bit, also known as a B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that react sensitively to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their head very high to lower it and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, like a Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled in the upper, small ring. However, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts hardly any pressure on the poll.
