Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Jointed Bit with High Port 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Jointed Bit with High Port 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporty thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single jointed or double jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Jointed Bit with High Port 16mm 12.5 is a Baucher bit, also called a B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very still in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their heads very high to lower them and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, as with the Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled in the upper, small ring. However, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts hardly any pressure on the poll.
