Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been designed so that surface rust develops when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. The bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek piece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 16mm 13.5 is a Baucher bit, also known as a B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their heads very high to lower them and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because as with the Pelham, the cheek piece is attached to the upper, small ring. Unlike a Pelham, however, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts little pressure on the poll.
