The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Broken Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Baucher or Fillis cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double broken. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's labial area. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double broken
A double broken mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single broken bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheekpiece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Broken Bit 16mm 12.5 is a Baucher bit, also known as a B-snaffle, Fillis, or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their heads very high to lower them and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, as with a Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled into the upper, small ring. However, unlike a Pelham, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts little pressure on the poll.
