The Trust Equestrian Team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 12mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 12mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draught horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek piece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 12mm 14.5 is a Baucher bit, also called B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and encourages horses that carry their head very high to lower it and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, like a Pelham, the cheek piece is buckled into the upper, small ring. Unlike a Pelham, however, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts hardly any pressure on the poll.
