The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 12mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a width of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust develops when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Cheek piece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron-hanging cheek double jointed 12mm 13.5 is a Baucher bit, also known as a B-snaffle, Fillis, or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that react sensitively to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their heads very high to lower them and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because, like a Pelham, the cheek piece is attached to the upper, small ring. However, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts almost no pressure on the poll.
