Product description
Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Broken Bit 12mm 12.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its widest point. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draught horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bits from Trust Equestrian are carefully selected and made from the best materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Broken Bit 12mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Broken Bit 12mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-broken. The mouthpiece has a size of 12.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Cheek Piece
Baucher/Fillis
The Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Double Broken Bit 12mm 12.5 is a Baucher bit, also called a B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and particularly encourages horses that carry their heads very high to lower them and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle strongly resembles a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because like with the Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled into the upper, small ring. However, unlike the Pelham, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever and therefore exerts little pressure on the poll.
Mouthpiece
double broken
A double-broken mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single-broken bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
