The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Hackamore Combination long single jointed locked bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Hackamore Combination long single jointed locked bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Hackamore shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when the reins are taken up.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Hackamore
The hackamore is a bitless bridle that focuses the effect on the bridge of the nose. Additionally, when the reins are taken up, it also acts on the poll and chin groove.
