The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Waterford Multi-Linked Mouthpiece 16mm 12.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Waterford Multi-Linked Mouthpiece 16mm 12.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with D-shaped rings as cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed. The bit has a size of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed in such a way that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed and strictly quality-controlled by Trust's technical teams.
Mouthpiece
Multi-jointed/Waterford
A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is soft and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.
Cheekpiece
D-Ring
Due to the properties of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses that are still a bit inexperienced. This is because the shape and weight of the cheekpieces ensure a quiet and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and calm rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
