The Trust Equestrian Team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron D-Ring High Port from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron D-Ring High Port is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with D-shaped rings as cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a ported bar.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's labial area. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Ported Bits
A ported bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A ported mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderful for young horses that are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheekpieces ensure a quiet and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and steady rein contact is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
