The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and function. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring High Port Bit 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring High Port Bit 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features D-shaped rings as cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at its thickest point in the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is typically between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With their Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Ported Bits
A port is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A ported mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek Piece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses that are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheek pieces ensure a calm and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral stability is provided. Good and quiet rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
