The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron D-Ring French Straight Bar 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron D-Ring French Straight Bar 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with D-shaped rings as cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is normally ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissure. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suited for young horses that are still a bit inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheekpieces ensure a quiet and pleasant position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and steady rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide slightly more leverage on the poll.
