The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Bit, single jointed, locked, 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Bit, single jointed, locked, 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features D-shaped rings as cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when rein pressure is applied. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally a good fit for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the horse's labial area. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back into a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses who are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheekpieces ensure a calm and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and calm rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide slightly more leverage on the poll.
