The Trust Equestrian bit range provides gentle yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Dr. Bristol Copper Plate bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Dr. Bristol Copper Plate bit is made of Sweet Iron and features D-shaped rings as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which means a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Dr. Bristol
The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a plate as its center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It acts mainly on the tongue with a sharp action due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean on the hand.
Side Piece
D-Ring
Due to the properties of this bit, it is wonderfully suited for young horses that are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the side pieces ensure a calm and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and calm rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
