The Trust Bit Sweet Iron D-Ring Double Jointed with Copper Rings is made of Sweet Iron and features D-shaped rings as cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped to the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Cheek piece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suited for young horses that are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheek pieces ensure a calm and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral stability is provided. Good and calm rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide slightly more leverage on the poll.
