The Trust Sweet Iron D-Ring Double Jointed Bit with Copper Rings 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with D-shaped rings as cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.

Bit thickness

The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's lip area. So it is a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Sweet Iron

Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been designed so that surface rust develops when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are constantly being developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.

Mouthpiece

double jointed

A double jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Cheek piece

D-ring

Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses that are still a bit inexperienced. This is because the shape and weight of the cheek pieces ensure a calm and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and calm rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
