The Trust Equestrian Team is continuously working on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Curb Gag Double Jointed bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Curb Gag Double Jointed bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Curb Gag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used for horses with narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Side Piece
Curb Gag
The combi bit, also called a Curb Gag, ensures optimal pressure distribution on the lower jaw and mouth and is very well accepted by the horse. The second rein acts like a curb strap that can be used and released as needed. This bit is very well suited for particularly strong and forward-going horses.
