The bit assortment from Trust Equestrian provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Double Jointed Curbgag Bit 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Double Jointed Curbgag Bit 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Curbgag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shires Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were designed so that surface rust develops on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double Jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek Piece
Curbgag
The combination bit, or curb gag, ensures optimal pressure distribution on the lower jaw and mouth and is very well accepted by the horse. The second rein acts like a curb chain, which can be taken up and released as needed. This bit is very well suited for particularly strong and forward-going horses.
