Product description
Trust Sweet Iron Curbgag Bit, Double Jointed, 16mm, 12.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-strength mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and effectiveness of the bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Curbgag Bit, Double Jointed, 16mm, 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Curbgag Bit, Double Jointed, 16mm, 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Curbgag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 12.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Side Piece
Curbgag
The combination bit, or curbgag, ensures optimal pressure distribution on the lower jaw and mouth and is very well accepted by the horse. The second rein acts like a chin strap, which can be taken up and released as needed. It is very suitable for horses that tend to push forward.
Mouthpiece
Double Jointed
The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
