The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Beval Waterford Link Mouthpiece 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Universal rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multiple joint. The bit has a width of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally suitable for very large warmbloods.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

A multiple joint or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is soft and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.

Universal/Swivel

The universal bit, also known as Beval or Swivel, usually has rings as side pieces, with internal eyelets at the top and bottom. These allow for additional buckling of cheek pieces and reins, which makes the bit very flexible. With the Beval, the mouthpiece is attached in a central axis of the ring.
