Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Beval Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Beval Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called universal rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, meaning a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The bit has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually a good fit for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Dr. Bristol
The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a plate as the center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It acts mainly on the tongue with a sharp action due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean against the hand.
Cheekpiece
Universal/Swivel
The universal bit, also called Beval or Swivel, usually has rings as cheekpieces, with internal eyelets at the top and bottom. These allow for additional attachment of cheekpieces and reins, making the bit very flexible. With the Beval, the mouthpiece is attached in a central axis of the ring.
