The Trust Equestrian bit range provides gentle yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Baby Pelham bit, single jointed, locked, from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Sweet Iron Baby Pelham bit, single jointed, locked is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Baby Pelham side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are engaged.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its widest point. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and rigorously quality controlled.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Side piece
Baby Pelham
The Baby Pelham is a variation of the Pelham, which is ideal for accustoming horses to poll pressure, as it has shorter shanks. This significantly reduces the leverage of the Trust Sweet Iron Baby Pelham bit, single jointed, locked, and makes it more comfortable for the horse.
