The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Continental Waterford Link Mouthpiece 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Continental rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 11.5 centimeters. The mouthpiece size 11.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Multi-jointed/Waterford
A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is soft and friendly, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.
Cheek Piece
Continental
The continental bit can be ridden with two reins. Increased pressure from the second rein causes the bit to tilt and pull upwards in the corner of the mouth. This means increased action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. The bit also supports the horse's natural self-carriage.
