Product description
Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle Olive Head Single Jointed Blocking Bit
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a medium-strong mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle Olive Head Single Jointed Blocking bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle Olive Head Single Jointed Blocking bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with gag olive head rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are engaged.
Bit Thickness
Cheek Piece
Gag snaffle with olive head rings
The bit is a combination of a gag snaffle and an olive head bit, brought together to utilize the advantages of both bit types. The olive head ring provides more lateral stability in the horse's mouth. The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle Olive Head Single Jointed Blocking bit can be ridden with one or two reins, just like any gag snaffle.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked (blocking) mouthpiece resembles a single jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
