The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and effectiveness. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit with Medium Bar 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit with Medium Bar 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Gag Bit rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's labial area. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shires horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Gag Bits
The gag bit can be ridden with two reins. Increased pressure on the second rein causes the bit to tilt and pull up in the corner of the mouth. This results in an increased effect. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. Also usable for horses to achieve increased flexion.
