Product description

Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle, Single-Jointed, Locked

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its widest point, making it a medium-strong mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, consider the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle, Single-Jointed, Locked from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Snaffle, Single-Jointed, Locked bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Gag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up.

Bit thickness

Cheekpiece

Gag Snaffle

The gag snaffle can be ridden with two reins. The second rein, with increased pressure, causes a tilting and an upward pulling of the bit in the corner of the mouth. This results in increased action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. The bit also supports the horse's natural self-carriage.

Mouthpiece

Locked

The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit returns to being a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits as a result.
