Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the greatest care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, Single-Jointed and Locking, 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, Single-Jointed and Locking, 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Gag Bit rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The mouthpiece has a size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually suitable for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly controlled for quality.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Side piece
Gag bits
The gag bit can be ridden with two reins. Increased pressure on the second rein causes the bit to tip and pull upwards in the horse's mouth. This means increased action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. The bit also supports the horse's natural upward carriage.
