The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, single jointed, locking 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, single jointed, locking 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Gag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Gag Bit
The gag bit can be ridden with two reins. The second rein, with increased pressure, causes the bit to tilt and pull up into the corners of the mouth. This means a reinforced action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. Also usable for horses to achieve increased collection.
