The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, double jointed with copper rings is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with gag bit rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's interdental space. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Double jointed
The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies a little more loosely in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Sidepiece
Gag bits
The gag bit can be ridden with two reins. Increased pressure from the second rein causes the bit to tilt and pull up into the corners of the mouth. This means increased action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. Also usable for horses to achieve increased head carriage.
