The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Elevator Bit Double Jointed 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Elevator Bit rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is normally ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double Jointed
A double jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used with narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek Piece
Elevator Bit
The elevator bit can be ridden with two reins. Increased pressure on the second rein causes the bit to tip and pull up into the corners of the mouth. This results in increased action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. Also usable for horses to achieve increased collection.
