Trust Equestrian bits are carefully selected and made from the best materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit Double-Jointed 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit Double-Jointed 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with gag bit rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-strength mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double-jointed
Double-jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, bars and corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. The double-jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single-jointed bits.
Cheekpiece
Gag Bit
The gag bit can be ridden with two reins. The second rein, with increased pressure, causes the bit to tilt and pull up in the corner of the mouth. This means increased action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. Also usable for horses to achieve increased self-carriage.
