The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Elevator Bit, double-jointed, 16mm, 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Elevator Bit rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissures. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Double-jointed
The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double-jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single-jointed bits.

The elevator bit can be ridden with two reins. Increased pressure on the second rein causes the bit to tilt and lift in the corner of the mouth. This means a stronger action. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. Also suitable for horses to achieve more uplift.
