For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Gag Snaffle
A gag snaffle is a combination of a gag bit and a full cheek snaffle. The full cheek snaffle restricts the horse laterally and gives it stability, and also prevents the bit rings from slipping through. The gag bit is connected to the bridle via gag cheek pieces that are pulled through the bit rings. This achieves a leveraged action depending on the degree of rein engagement.
